KUDOS - Haesun Morse

Seemingly, the only librarian that knows how to reset a patrons computer time using the catalogue terminals. But she gets this information from a loseleaf binder that all librarians must have access to. I have seen them lying around at staff desks.

This comes in very convenient when all staff computers are being upgraded, as they are today. I wonder if there are any patrons that know of this. It could be deadly in the wrong hands. But they would have had to get it from someone in the HSPLS.

MUFIKINS, THE EVIL TROLL ???

With a face like that?

sets himself to extort a shopping cart toll?

Yesterday, Mr. Baron Baroza, the Director of Operations, tells me the Mayor, Mufi Hanneman, called to say, he's tired of seeing my cart parked outside the library. He says Mr. Hanneman says he will have a policeman come and seize my property and remove it as abandoned. This, Mr. Baroza says in spite of the fact he has told Mr. Hanneman that the cart belongs to a patron inside the library. I went to City Hall today and attempted to verify this call at the Mayor's and Managing Director's offices, where I was told that the Mayor doesn't have jurisdiction at the State Library. I am also told by the Mayor's recrptionist that he would know this and not say what was relayed to me.

I returned to the library today and spoke with the Director, who had told me previously, that people who wanted to take pictures had complained about the cart being in the way. I told her I had been bringing it for almost a year and had not been informed of any complaints, which was curious to me. I also asked security and was told they had not received any.

At that time, I explained to her, I thought it necessary to have it in view because things had been taken from it, even though I remain downstairs and periodically look at it through the glass in the doors. I told her if anyone informed me of someone who thought the cart was in the way of their photograph, I would move it while they got the picture.

I thought this was agreeable to her, since at that time she voiced no further objections. Today, she said she had received complaints from the Tourism Board, relayed by tourists. Our discussion, which was mostly discussed on her side, ended with her saying, if need be, they would come up with a law or reglation "just for you".

I also inquired of Mr. Baroza and gave him the phone number and name written by the receptionist, so he could call and verify what I relayed to him. Although he was sure he recognized the Mayor's voice, he agreed to call and attempt to confirm. At this point I have not heard back from him.

I wish it were this easy for us all to at least threaten seizure of items we find offensive on peoples lawns(Petunias) in their driveways(Smart For Twos) or maybe even on their person (skinny jeans). But thankfully we live in, or hopefully still live in a nation where the individuals rights and property are protected by our laws and those we vote for and pay to protect them.

I would hope a man that becomes Mayor would not abuse his power so, and I hope there is not a policeman that would agree to assist in such a violation of rights.

BOOTSTRAP MISDIRECTION

THEY'RE GOIN AFTER YAHOO

A BALD FELLOW GETS SPECIAL ATTENTION WITH HIS YAHOO ACCOUNT FROM THE DIRECTOR, ON SATURDAY. HE SAYS HE CAN'T GET IN. SHE SAYS IT'S NOT THE LIBRARY BUT GUESS WHO....

A CURIOUS THING: IN ORDER TO SIGN ONTO A COMPUTER YOU NEED YOUR CARD NUMBER AND PIN. IF YOU LEAVE THE STATION, OR FOR ANY OTHER REASON WANT TO LOCK THE COMPUTER, ALL YOU NEED TO UNLOCK IT IS YOUR CARD NUMBER. THIS NUMBER THAT USED TO BE WRITTEN DOWN ON A LOG BY LIBRARIANS AND LEFT OUT IN THE OPEN. THIS WAS THE OLD SYSTEM. THE SAME NUMBER THAT SOMEONE MIGHT SEE WHEN FINDING A LOST CARD, ETC.

CAN'T BLAME YAHOO FOR THIS.

STINKY - THE MYSTERY MAN

STINKY UPDATE: SEEN IN THE KAKAAKO AREA - HE TELLS ME,  'TELL THEM WHAT YOU WANT'. I INQUIRE WHO "THEY" ARE. HE GETS AMNESIA AND TELLS ME HE'LL SEE ME LATER. SAYS HE OWNS 10 HOUSES IN CHINA.

SMELLS QUITE RIPE... ALWAYS
CLOTHES HAVE BEEN WORN SINCE I FIRST SAW HIM
AT LEAST 3 YEARS AGO
COMES AND GOES PERIODICALLY
KOREAN OR, MAYBE CHINESE
KNOWLEDGEABLE I THINK, ABOUT COMPUTERS
AND FAST
HE DOESN'T SPEAK MUCH IN ENGLISH, BUT CAN

SEEMS LIKE ONE OF THOSE I LOOSELY USE A YIDDISH TERM FOR - GOLEM. PEOPLE I SEE IN MY TRAVELS OR DESTINATIONS WHO ACT AS THOUGH SOMEONE HAS THEM ON A STRING OR WIND UP KEY. SENT TO SAY SOMETHING INSULTING, THREATENING, OR CONFUSING; OR, PERFORM SOME ACTION TO HARASS, INTIMIDATE, ETC.

SAD FOLK, VERY MARGINAL.

BUT WHERE THE CIRCUS HAS COME TO TOWN AND NEVER LEFT, IT'S TO BE OBSERVED WITH WONDER

THE MOST SAD ONES, TO ME, ARE THOSE WHO SEEM TO VIEW MY CIRCUMSTANCE AS ENTERTAINMENT

EVEN SADDER, ARE THE CHILDREN WHO'S PARENTS PUT THEM UP TO SUCH.

PURPOSELY LEFT BEHIND?

Why did the library remove the encyclopedia from the computers?
